Beacon Hill Road, Ewshot

Background

  • The key project objective was to create a highly sustainable self-build house using an innovative design and patent-pending carbon-negative autonomous construction method, whilst preserving neighbourhood amenities.
  • The development needed to limit landscape and countryside impact.
  • A full planning application for the demolition of some outbuildings and the construction of a single two-storey detached family house, with associated landscaping and access.

What we did

  • We were commissioned to produce a comprehensive Planning Statement and provide advice on other technical studies.
  • These were required to overcome planning officers' reservations about the scheme, which focused on issues of adherence to local planning policy and the lack of evidence surrounding the use of sustainable technologies.

How we added value

  • Our understanding of the planning policy context of the location was critical in getting permission granted, alongside our experience in addressing the issues of ‘exceptional quality or truly innovative design’ and self-build requirements, to assuage officers' concerns.
  • A successful application was submitted, and a deliverable permission was secured.
